Curriculum
The Foreign Language Department offers five-year programs in French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Russian, and a four-year program in Latin. Students are required to take at least three years of one language, and have the option of taking Advanced Placement courses in French, German, Latin and Spanish. Emphasis in modern languages is on oral communication and the culture of the country, while in Latin, the emphasis is on word derivation, grammar and Roman and Greek civilizations.
In Fine Arts and Humanities students have the opportunity to take chorus, band, orchestra, art, creative writing, journalism, philosophy, comparative religion, psychology, theatre arts or cultural studies. All students are required to complete one-credit fine arts course for graduation.
Health and Physical Education courses include ninth grade Physical Education, tenth grade Physical Education and Driver Education, Adapted Physical Education and Weight Training and Conditioning.
