TJHSST Summer School 2009

Summer School will be July 6, 2009 through August 5, 2009.
Summer School hours will be 8:00 until 3:00 P.M.
Tuition will be $800.00 for a credit course and $400.00 for a semester course.
Summer School semester courses will be broken down into the following dates:

  • A-Session: July 6 through July 21, 2009
  • B-Session: July 22 through August 6, 2009 (please note that this session lasts one day longer than all other summer school sessions)

Note that semester courses will be prioritized as A-Session, unless there are enough students to make a second (B) session.

Attendance: Students may only miss two whole days of summer school classes. Students will be dismissed from summer school with any more than two days total absences (or the accumulation of two summer school day total minutes). Semester courses allow only one day of absence. In actuality, no absences are encouraged because the courses move very quickly!

The PTSA will post information to facilitate carpooling. This will occur in May.

Summer School Registration will begin April 20, 2009, during lunch, in the cafeteria. The last day for summer school registration will be May 15, 2009. Checks are preferred. Please write the check to TJHSST and be sure to include your student's name on the memo line. Money orders are fine, but must be made out to TJHSST.

Important documents:

Courses being offered in the 2009 school year are the following:

  • Chemistry 1 (1 credit) This course is only recommended for those students who plan to take AP Biology or AP Chemistry as sophomores
  • Computer Science (1 credit)
  • Geometry (1 credit)
  • World History/Geography 1 (1 credit)
  • America and the World Since 1989
  • 20th Century World History
  • TJ Real World Algebra (skills update and development) (no credit)

Some additional thoughts:

  • All students entering Algebra 2 next school year are encouraged to take the "TJ Real World Algebra," August 10 until August 20, 2009, 8 until 2:30. Cost is TBA.
  • Ninth grade students are especially encouraged to take this course to ensure that all content areas and benchmarks have been instructionally covered and understood by students. This is particularly important when seventh grade Algebra 1 students are planning to take TJ Algebra 2.
  • Summer School courses need 25 students to make. In the event that, for example, only 15 students enroll in a multiple class course that has limited seat space, like Chemistry 1 or Computer Science, then upper level grade students will have preference in student selection for the course. So if 115 students enroll in a course, four classes will make. 15 students will be asked to select another class or to go on a wait list.
  • Families are encouraged to discuss the summer school option with students and help them understand that this is a big commitment.
